Picture Perfect ?

by Clara
(Australia )

im 16yr old girl making my way through my last 2yrs of high school, and i live at the Gold Coast, an area that is based around the 'ideal beach body'and your judged on how you look straight away...quite tiring and petty to be honest. dont get me wrong, i get caught up in this, hard not to at my school. im happy with what i look like (: (at least im naturally blonde, tan, and a good weight...due to a lot of sport (: loving school ) Yet the many people who i see..'fake' you could say ? look a little Baribi'ish ? and the youngest girls of our school are catching on, terrible to see..bleaching their hair white blonde..full makeup, eyeliner, dieting, really insecure, believe it or not, they are not even 12 yrs of age...the influence in clear, and its not just the media:

Barbie is the icon of perfection, and this is enforced throughout the media. The pressure to be perfect is always present, no matter how concealed it is, it is always there. The damage of erasing flaws and all imperfections can be harmful (Self-Destruction). Within the media 'flaws' are seen as something not right or never seen, yet everyone of us has some sort of flaw that makes us unique. Women have enough pressure to dress a certain way, to be a certain shape, size, weight, skin tone...and here we have all of these perfect characteristics in one simple plastic doll.
Barbie is the worlds perfect women.
and in a way im shocked that mothers are still buying this doll, maybe not even realising the impact that it could bring ?
There's never going to be another me, or you right ? embrace that idea, and dont forget it.

sorry had to get that out ! haha
Barbie is the focus of an art assignment of mine that im just finishing off... "picture perfect' is the idea (: thanks for your information by the way, quite the reality check (: thanks
