idealistic appearance

by Dolores

I think that Barbie dolls create an idealistic appearance which is accepted by girls at a very young age. This means that they will grow up being dissapointed and discontent when they do not meet the Barbie doll proportions. Barbie dolls promote the message that there is only one type of beauty which eliminates any woman who is of a different race or body type.

I find it hard to explain what I mean, so I hope that is clear to you. I really do think that young girls should be given other toys to play with. I think that Barbie dolls are just the start of a lifetime of self loathing which easily leads to serious problems.

I think you worded your feelings very well! I do not care for barbies. They put all of the emphesis on external beauty, besides their unhealthy figure, the whole point is to dress them in hundreds of different outfits and comb their hair.
