Suicide, a sin?

If someone were to commit suicide does that mean that they aren't a Christian? Is it a sin to kill yourself? What are some ways to cope with depression and feel normal again?

My friend killed herself, and peronally, I know that if you are dealing with depression or something of that sort, It's an illness, so God will forgive you.

He Says She Says

There are a lot of opinions about suicide and how it relates to Christianity, but it's hard to tell what the truth is until we reach eternity. Someone could tell you it's not a sin, so you do it and find yourself in a bad place for the rest of eternity! That would be a very bad day!

I personally believe that suicide is a sin because it is a person taking their life from God's hands and putting it into their own possession. It is a rejection of God's sovereignty and power for a quick fix. Can you imagine what a Christian would have to say as they faced God after they killed themselves? I just picture them telling God that they couldn't take life anymore and that they needed to end it, and God responds, "But I wasn't done with you yet! I had so many plans for your life, but you ended it too soon." Christians are supposed to live lives of FAITH. Can you still be a Christian when you end your life because your faith is gone? I don't think so.

Again, this is just my opinion. I would encourage you to search the scriptures yourself and pray about it. As far as depression goes, sometimes it's related to a chemical imbalance so medicine does help. Other times it's a choice of what the person chooses to let develop in their heart and minds. Either way, the person should pray about it, talk to trusted adults and pray with those adults. If counseling is necessary, go for it.

The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to find your joy in Christ. The Bible says that "love covers a multitude of sins." Let the love of God transform your heart, soul and mind as you seek relationship with Him. It's impossible to be depressed when you live under the shelter of His wings.

Thank you so much, your words have strenghtened and encouraged me. I'm going to leave the end of my life in God's hands, and I pray that He can say of my life "Well done my good, and faithful servent!" Thank you so much for taking time to read and reply, it's helped me a lot.
