riding a bike

by maisie

anorexia is like riding a bike; once you lern, you never forget. my name is maisie and my anorexia is like learning to ride a bike. some people may think im talking gibberish but there is some logic in what i'm saying. you see, when you get up and you have to go to work or school or wherever, you may hop on your bike and not have to think about how to ride it, you just get on with it. thats what i do. i get up and dont have to think about beeing hungry or the excuses in my head as to why i cant eat. ive already fixed it in my brain... just like riding a bike.

Difference
by: Anonymous

Not to be mean but the difference between anorexia and riding a bike is that riding a bike is good for you, it makes you stronger and builds your muscles. Anorexia on the other hand isn't good for you, it tears your muscles down and makes you weak. Anorexia will lead you to not having the strength to ride your bike, and possibly even cause you to be hospitalized. Riding a bike will keep you healthy and fit, I highly recommend eating and riding your bike every day over not eating.

a good comparison
by: cassandra

maisie, that's a very good comparison. i was in your shoes several years ago, and still struggle at times, and i agree with you with how you compare your anorexia and riding a bike--you don't have to think about it once you learn how to do it--it just happens, and that comparison with bike riding, or any other activity that has to be learned such as swimming, horseback riding, driving, etc. can be compared to so many other things as well, including addictions because they become a part of your "natural" routine.
