I'm so discouraged

by Katie
(Canada)

For the longest time I have had so much struggles with simply loving who I am, and accepting myself. And through your book and bible study, and the stories of other girls here, I've started overcoming that. And ever since I did, I feel that it has been even more discouraging when I want to find real friendship.

Perhaps I need to just be more open to meeting more people, but so far the people I DO know seem to be so double-minded. I mean the people at church even. My Christian mentor won't quit lecturing about marriage and dating and boyfriends and girlfriends, and lust. It's like that's all there is in his mind to teach us about. And the boys seem to be having so much trouble looking at a girl in the face rather than below their faces. My mentor even suggested that I go date guys. And not for marriage but just for the experience. What experience??? It sounds disgusting to me now, and the idea of dating is now more farther from me than it ever has been!

I just feel so discouraged that I don't know where I'm going to find pure acceptance. Not for being a girl that is preety or talented, but just for being me as a person. Other than my one friend that I am still friends with since graduating high school, and my family, I don't know anyone else so far who is interested in me not for a gain of their own (popularity or buying stuff etc).

Am I simply experiencing this because I have only just recently begun accepting myself beyond how I look?

Nonetheless, I cannot help but add my thanks for making your wonderful book and this website available! It makes me so joyful that I can love myself despite how much I hated myself before. I feel like I am just beginning to learn to really breathe while living!

Thank you in advance :)!!!

Lean on the Lord
by: Laura

First off, I would like to say that I am proud of you for learning to accept the way that God made you. That is no easy task, especially in this society, and I pray that God will continue to speak truth into your life concerning this area. As for the sudden discouragement, don’t be surprised. Satan hates when people have victory in their lives, especially Christians. And he would love nothing more than to keep you in bondage and if he can’t trap you in one area of your life he will certainly try to in another area. Trust me, I know this from experience! Nevertheless, we have a God, who is mightier than the gates of hell; who is a strong tower and a refuge for the needy. The Bible says so much about God’s ability to sustain you, etc. I’ll list a few right here: Isaiah 41:13; 1 Peter 5:7, Psalm 55:22, Psalm 34:19, Psalm 118:6-8. There’s just a lot in the Psalms.
Don’t be afraid to ask God for wisdom in how to deal with these situations that you’re in. I'll pray for you too, since we seem to have the same struggles when it comes to how others accept us. Stay strong girl!

Fixing our eyes on Jesus...
by: Shelley

Katie,
I'm so thankful that God has been using the book and this website to impact you! That is His Spirit at work in you :)

I don't understand exactly what you're going through, but I do know that there have been some lonely times in my life as I've decided to live for Christ. Many times people, even other Christians, may not fully "understand" or "get" you. That's okay. There is one who does. And He is so proud of you! Jesus is proud of you for coming to Him and learning to accept who He's created you to be...not compromising or settling for what the world has to offer.

John 10:10 says that our enemy, Satan, comes only to steal, kill and destroy. He would love to steal the seed God has planted within your heart and kill your true beauty. But, it goes on to say that Jesus has come to give you life and life to the fullest. Keep your eyes fixed on Him and not your friends. I know it's hard, but He will never let you down!

Praying for you...
Shelley
