How to mend a broken testimony?

by Laura
(Delaware)

How do you mend your spiritual testimony when you've unintentionally messed it up? You say something, and it sounds silly and goofy at nighttime, but than you wake up the next morning and realize just how horrible it was that you said something like that.

How do you gain a persons trust back after you've shown them you can be just as bad as the rest of the world? They won't come to you with spiritual matters because your walk with Christ no longer seems genuine? What verses in the Bible offer insight into this matter, what advice do you have?

your faith is not on trial
by: kelly

You dont have to be an angel to have faith in god,Everyone on this earth has at one time or another said and done things that they later regret,no-one is judging you for it.
All it will take is an appology and for you to lay your feelings on the line, dont beat yourself up over this, you clearly didnt mean the things you said,as you obviously feel terrible.
There will be many more times in your life where your faith is challenged in one way or another, thats the way god works-he sends us all trials we just have to realise that he has allready given us the inner strength to deal with it.

First of all, I applaud you for asking for verses in the Bible to shed some light on your situation. It shows that you seek to please God and that you know where to look to find out what pleases His heart. We all fall short of God's glory (Romans 3:23) and make mistakes, but genuine Christians are the ones that repent and seek to change their ways. Even Paul says in Romans 7 that he hates that he keeps doing things that he doesn't want to do. No one is above sin, but if you have the Spirit in you, you are no longer a slave to sin! Read Galatians 5:16-26, John 15:1-8 and Romans 8. Also, the tongue is the hardest part of the body to control! Proverbs has a lot to say about that, and the Apostle James gives us tips for taming the tongue in James 3. I know I'm offering a lot of reading, but trust me, it's all good and will revive your soul! God bless and happy reading:)

keep your conscience clear
by: lydia

First off, set things right with God. if you have messed up go to the Lord and ask for forgiveness and cleansing in His blood. Then go apologize to that person. Set things right from your side. Make sure your conscience is clear. Leave your testimony in the Lord's hand. You have made restitution and HE knows, so that's all that matters. Whatever others think about you, God knows the truth. Be patient, Laura, in due time, the Lord will do what is best in His sight, concerning this relationship.

For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God.
1 Peter 2 : 19, 20
