Cassidy,
I'm glad that you are interested in eating healthy. There have been entire books and websites about this topic.

One book I have read and recommend is, "Greater Health God's Way," by Stormie O'Martian.

You could probably find an inexpensive copy at Ebay.

Keep fixing your eyes on Jesus, Cassidy!

Tips to healthy eating
by: Sarah

Hi Cassidy!

I think it's great that you are taking an interest in your own health!

Maybe you want to take a deeper look into what goes into junk food and what makes the food so unhealthy, and you may be so disgusted you won't want to eat it the next time!

Also, healthy food can be really yummy as well. Eat fruits when you're feeling greedy, and you can get creative with fruits.. there are smoothies, you can make jellies with them too!

I think the best thing would be to discipline yourself. Be accountable to someone who cares for you and wants you to eat healthily, and surround yourself with people who eat healthily as well. It would be very difficult if all your friends always eat junk food and you have to say no all the time.

All the best! =)

In Christ,
Sarah

Eating Healthy
by: Julie

Cassidy,
Thank you for sharing. I understand your concerns.
Does it ever seem like you are given mixed messages all the time, both for and against adhering to certain eating habits? It's hard to decipher what is best, and even harder not to want to go to extremes because it's confusing to think about about making changes and if it will be too difficult and the dangers of going too far and letting something that seems healthy take control of other parts of your life. It might seem dramatic, but that has happened to me! Healthy eating is only one of the ways God hopes we will continue to take care of ourselves as we get older.

Becoming more health conscious cam be a good thing for reasons like enabling our bodies and minds to get the proper nutrients they need to help us live productive, purposeful lives. But if there's one thing I would have liked to tell myself when I started exploring health a few years back, it would have been to look at food and body image in a more balanced way, through the lense of Christ. Speaking from experience, if you're not being healthful for the right reasons, it could be destructive to you later on.

Also, your body will likely change a lot in the next few years. Whatever size and shape you become, please know that your true beauty is not dependent on maintaining the look you may have now. There is something special about becoming the person God made you to be as an adult, no matter if it is a little different than it used to be.

Keep looking up,
Julie

Eating God's way
by: Laura

I agree with Shelley. I am thrilled with the book Greater Health God's Way. I have struggled for many years with how to eat.

In the past I craved junk food almost constantly. I have been eating according to Greater Health for almost 2 months. Now, I am very rarely hungry, I have lost about 10 pounds and I rarely have cravings for unhealthy foods.

According to the author of the book, if you are too thin or too fat, eating this way will even out your weight. In my experience, the focus should be on eating according to God's plan and not on being a certain weight.

I wish I was eating according to God's way when I was your age! May the Lord guide you and keep you in His ways.
