Concern for a christian friend who is not eating

by mbfiab

I want to give her a word from the bible to ensure her faith in her beauty to remove satan's strong hold on her. she has image issues, i hate seeing her torture herself by not eating, torture is not what God wants. Please help me with advice to help her, i need her to know she is beautiful and what she is doing is harmful.

Ive spoken to her about it but she hasnt acknowledged any problem, when shes lost 20kg!
God doesnt have plans to harm you. she is harming herself so its obviously becoming 'someone' elses plans over her life, please pray she will remove this stonghold. Do you have any words, prayers please?

Im desperate to help.

she needs nourishment
by: Kristin

Of course praying for your friend and letting you know that you are there for her, not to judge or criticize what she does will help her to open up and listen to you. From my experience of learning how to help with someone so troubled, there is usually a hard core root issue, whether it be her body image/ self esteem that feeds her need to starve or punish or wallow in depression. My suggestion is to see if she realizes there is a problem and wants help. If she does then you can volunteer to talk to a guidance counselor or her parents by her side to support her. If she does not then you have to realize how dangerous this disorder is and talk to her parents and or a guidance counselor anyway, even if she gets mad at you for now. She will thank you later because this could kill her, physically, spiritually, and emotionally and you just don't know if that's what she is actually hoping for right now.

Anyways, the bible has tons of verses on how our bodies are a temple of God and how we are to live in his joy, strength, peace and beauty. The scriptures can bring life but only to those who are willing and able to listen and accept God's truth. Your friend probably needs help to discern what truth, life and joy is right now so please- tell an adult who is able to help her!

Eat the Word

I'm so glad to hear that your friend has someone like yourself in her life so that you can love and support her through prayer and encouragement.

It's great that you want to find scriptures to use with your friend. That's the kind of bread that she can eat and be filled with!

Psalm 139 is always a good place to start, but you could also go to Song of Solomon and maybe do a Bible study with her. It's a great picture of Christ's love for His bride. Some really good parts to highlight are:

Song of Solomon 1:5-6
The Beloved (which represents you and I and your friend) says that she's "dark but lovely." At the very beginning of the book we see how this girl is considered to be ugly by everyone else because she doesn't have the fair skin everyone else does, but then as your go through the rest of the book, we see how the Lover calls her beautiful and adores her. You can totally translate that to her concerns about weight.

In chaper 4:9-10, he says that with once glance of her eyes, she has stolen his heart! How deeply Christ loves your friend. If only she could realize what she does to His heart when she looks to Him!

I pray that the Lord uses you to open her eyes to these truths. Much love and many prayers!

Seasoned with love

A good reference for your friend would be Psalm 139:13 and 14-
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb...

God knew what he was doing when he made each of us the way we are...all different shapes and sizes. Sometimes it is important to consider how we are speaking the truth to our friends. Depending on where they are at, they may not just take Scripture and apply it..they may need time to deal with their feelings and why they are using food as an idol. Are you both in a Bible study or youth group together, where there is accountability and/or sharing of difficulties? I would encourage you to continue to encourage and love your friend, but respond to an older person or someone with this kind of specific experience if she does not respond to the truth you share together in Christ. Continue fighting for her, even if she does not want to come around now.
In Him,
Julie

IN MY PRAYERS
by: Prayer

I'LL DEFINITELY PRAY FOR YOUR FRIEND AND FOR YOU TO TELL HER THE THINGS SHE NEEDS TO HEAR TO STOP. YOU NEED TO REMIND HER GOD DIDN'T MAKE A MISTAKE WHILE HE WAS MAKING HER. HE MADE HER LIKE THAT ON PURPOSE. SHE ALSO MIGHT NEED SERIOUS HELP. GET A COUNSELOR OR A WISE ADULT THAT WOULDN'T TELL. HOPE I COULD HELP.

-PRAYER
