Are all bikinis immodest?

by Meagen Larterie
(Michigan)

Ever since I've been little I've worn bikinis. I've never worn revealing or inappropriate ones, just ones that would allow me to get a tan but cover me up right. Is that wrong? I also feel uncomfortable in tankininis and one peices because I've never worn them and I don't even like them to be honest. I only go to the beach a couple times at summer and so that's my only chance to get a tan. I know that I must be modest but I really don't think that some bikins are immodest. Of course there are ones that I would never even think about wearing because they're so revealing and vulgar. But I have to dissagree that all bikinis are immodest. My question is, "Are all bikinis immodest?".

I don't think all bikinis are immodest. It's just the minds o other people who are wrong haha.

No there's lots of modest bikinis, everybody wears bikinis so guys have to get used to them. I think it's dumb to try to take all the responsibility off men for their lust issues. If we blame it all on women then when guys are faced with real temptation like everyone is in the real world, they will cave. None of my guy friends have problems with lusting when the see girls in bikinis and that is because they are so close to God and that is why they are such good friends of mine. I never where immodestly bikinis because I don't want people to perceive me in a certain way but it seems to me that this whole modesty issue has become completely centered on men like everything else in rigid, conservative churches.

Yes, they are immodest

Yes. I think they are. Here is a question for you. Why does it matter if you are tan when if you are dressing modestly, no one is going to see that part of your body anyway?

Our culture accepts bikinis as a standard, but that doesn't mean you have to follow it.

I Must Disagree
by: Anonymous

I must disagree with the first couple comments. Bikinis are immodest. It's not just the Christians that we must think about when wearing them. It's everyone else as well.
As females, it is our job to protect males eyes, and to help prevent lustful thoughts from entering their minds.
I don't know what guys they are, but honestly, (whether they admit it or not) guys are visually stimulated beings (females are touch stimulated). That is why summer is the worst season for guys. Short shorts come out, as well as tank tops. These are not all 'revealing' because they 'cover up' the important things, but what we as females fail to realize is that by showing as much skin as a tank top allows, can cause a guys mind to wander into certain areas it shouldn't.
The Bible commands us to bear one another's burdens. We must bear this burden for the guys. We cannot allow ourselves to go around in a bra and underwear for 'clothing'.
Would you wear just a bra and underwear outside? What is the difference from that and a bikini?
