A word never used to describe me...

by Ash

Beautiful is never a word used to describe me... Unless your my mom. Honestly, I am the ugly duckling out of my family of 5 daughters. I feel like I am never good enough for my family or for anyone else in that matter.

I would love to change so many things about myself. My hideous freckles, my ugly gap between my teeth, be taller than 5'2, have longer, prettier hair, have bluer eyes, get rid of my huge nose. The list goes on...

And I know God made me the way he wanted me to be, but honestly... Why can't we be made the way WE want to be made. Why can't I have long, thick, curly hair, no blemishes or freckles, sky blue eyes, perfect teeth and smile, and be 5'6. That's how I would have want to be made...

Why can't we have a choice and be made the way we want to be. I thank God each and everyday for the blessings he gives me, but I struggle with this simple, yet complicated feeling of being beautiful... Whether it be in God's eyes, or mine...

Embrace Your True Beauty
by: Heather

Hey Ash,

One thing I have learned, is that it really wouldn't matter if we were made the exact way we want to be, we would still be unhappy with our looks. I hear it all the time from girls and women with straight hair that wish their hair was curly. Blondes want to be brunettes, and brunettes want to be blonde. Tall girls want to be shorter and short girls want to be taller.

I think the key isn't changing our looks, but accepting that they are unique to us, and we are beautiful because of how we embrace them, instead of trying to change them. I am a firm believer that true beauty comes from within, and part of that is knowing that what's on the outside doesn't make us beautiful, but when our true beauty shines out, it enhances our outer beauty.

I often hear guys say that what makes a girl really beautiful, is her confidence. Instead of always putting herself down, she embraces who she is on the inside and out. Just the way God made her. So instead of focussing on what you would change, take a moment to think about how you can embrace what you've been given. Because you aren't lacking. You are beautifully and wonderfully made!
