by Julia
Seventeen and scarred is she
Who severs skin with knives
Pain dulls every social ache
And blood paints over lies
Seventeen and hurt is she
Who's bruised beneath her blouse
Lace and buttons weave to hide
What happens in her house
Seventeen and forced is she
With him beneath the sheets
Twisted limbs so compromised
Her conscience went to sleep
Seventeen and worn is she
Who smiles pearly white
Trudging down with pointed heels
That walk into the night
Seventeen and sad is she
Who cries out in the dark
Regrets weighing on her soul
Til faith ignites a spark
Seventeen and desperate's she
Who’s desperate to be new
To be washed pure and white
Living with a different view
Seventeen and saved is she
Who’s bathing in the blood
Not of her own veins but by
The Holy Father’s flood
Seventeen and loved is she
Who knows she’s beautiful
Scars fade into memory
And brokenness made whole
(Author's Note: This is not my own personal story but that of an abused girl who's slipped into the lies of this world, feeling utterly worthless, and then finds salvation.)
