You Really Are Beautiful!

by Eva Sonnenberg
(Beaverton, Oregon, 97007)

Sometimes when I feel like I'm not very pretty, overweight, or not good enough, I remember that God made us ALL beautiful,(never has he made anything ugly) given us so much, that we shouldn't be complaining about what we don't have, and what we want.

Because, even though it doesn't seem like it, when we say we aren't pretty, or we're not good enough, we are actually insulting the Creator of You, the World, the Universe, and everything you see around you. Just remember that if you KNOW you're beautiful, it's going to show, and everyone will see that you are beautiful on the inside. : )

Well Said!
by: Shelley

Eva,
Thank you for sharing such great thoughts!

Something you said reminded me of something a friend of mine told me today. She said she trusts God, but she's really hard on herself. She's a perfectionist and always putting herself down for one thing or another.

Well, she felt like God was saying to her recently that she was really beating up on one of His children. She said, "Really, who?" And He gently said it was her. She was beating up on herself by her thoughts! She would never say the things she says to herself to other people because she wouldn't want to hurt them! God is now asking her to forgive herself and show the same love and grace to herself that she does to others.

When she was sharing that to me and after reading your story, it made me think of how many times many of us do the same thing to ourselves. We beat ourselves up over how we look. Or something dumb we said, etc. We are "beating ourselves up" and not even realizing it!

"God has already prepared for us a place of wholeness, where we have been chosen and loved in Christ. Unfortunately many of us never experience the rest, peace, communion, purpose, and worth that are ours in Christ. Instead, we are tormented by negative emotions of fear, shame, etc. However it is in Christ that we are chosen and loved, and it is out of this reality that our emotions are healed.

When we feel fear Christ is with us.
When we feel rejected Christ accepts us
When we feel worthless Christ approves us.
When we feel shame Christ covers us.
When we feel insecure Christ surrounds us.
When we feel defiled Christ restores us.
When we feel hopeless Christ becomes our living hope."
(Excerpt from Thom Gardner's book Healing the Wounded Heart)
