Weight Issues

by Sarah
(New Zealand)

Im in year 10 and at the moment i came across you site while researching body image issues for teens as an english research project. I have very low self esteem and run 16km a day just so i feel good about myself. I go to boarding school and live with people i wish i looked like

it didnt really effect me until i came home in year 9 and we were having a family party and a boy said to me you look so fat how much do you weigh? I started crying and ever since then i have had problems with it. Your quote above effects me although with support of amazing friends everyday i seem to grow happier with myself.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
by: Simi

Dear Sarah,

I sympathise with you and what you are dealing with based on words spoken by another person to you. I understand what you are going through as I was in a similar position to you, thrown into what became a full blown eating disorder.

The end result is that you end up resenting yourself more and find that your life, mood and existence is controlled by something you cannot see which sounds very senseless to most people. The point I am trying to help you understand is that what most people do not realise is that WORDS play an important factor in one's life whether postive or negative. Life is a matter of choice you ca choose which route you want to take, you are still young and have so much ahead of you.

God loves you and he is able to take out of any situation, continue praying and surround yourself with those positive friends, love yourself, eat in moderation (trust me food is good, and to think I have deprived myself for soo long) the devil plays tricks with mind. I am praying for you but speak to God about what is on your mind, you will be amazed about what he can do, do not limit God.

Kudos to you
by: S'ambrosia

Okay, first of all I think you're pretty amazing for being able to run 10 miles per day! Goodness girl, I wish I had the ability to do that! Secondly, I know it's tough to handle comments like what that boy said, or to be surrounded by people you feel have more to offer than yourself, but you've got to celebrate what you like about yourself! Don't focus on what you don't have..think about what makes you unique and beautiful in your own way. I'm so glad to hear that you have great friends as a support system. Ask them to help you out too. They can encourage you in your understanding of how beautifull you REALLY are:0)
