There He Was

there He was
gazing into eternity
seeing what had not happened
but would surely come to be

He then raised a question
and awaited a reply
the Holy Ghost recorded the answer
and simply wrote,
"He died".

and on the sixth day
He knelt on the ground
to create the reason
for that question
out of clay mound...

there He was
arms outstretched
hanging on a tree
this was God impaled
in both His hands and feet

i struggled to understand,
"how this be?"

why would the King of glory
be here - willingly?

ah, but as i fixed my gaze upon calvary
i gasp in awe for suddenly
my mind's eye begins to see
God's view back in eternity
and lo, what He was looking at - was me
it was me!

in sweet response
i fall to my knees
for my heart now understands
His great love for me

for as adam slept - eve came from his side
where the spear did pierce Jesus
so came forth i - His bride!

dear one come - to Him be reconciled
as your mind's eye
sees the love of God
in the face of Christ

and understand,
"for God so loved" - you
yes dear one, for you...

there He was!
