Sleep

by Marissa
(U.S.A.)

I lay awake

My mind racing
I cannot sleep
My thoughts are rushing
It's so dark outside
And I can't hush my mind
Why can't I sleep
Why can I only dream
About a restful night
I have made so many friends
While looking up at the ceiling
Friends that live inside my head
Each one knows what I'm feeling
Among these friends inside my head
Lives him, aggressor
Him, my demon
He's savaged my body
Picked my soul to shreds
And every time he comes around
I have no where to go again
Insomnia is my closest friend
I think he's here to stay
And every night I sit and bend
My thoughts around his image
But nothing moves, nothing will change
The only way I can close my eyes
Is to beg him for my rest
And although I try so hard
I can only do my best

Awesome!

This poem is extremely well written! I really like your style. I do hope that you have found peace in the Lord since writing this though. Have you?

He is peace when our fear is crippling

i understand, suffering from anxiety at night as well. WE both need the peace of the Lord. Hang in there.
