Prom

I'm 15 and a freshman, and I really, really want to go to the prom at my school this year, but my mom won't let me go! I don't understand why! She doesn't want me to go with a guy...even though she herself went to prom with a guy when she was my age. And then I told her I could go in a group with some of my gal pals, but she still won't let me! Do you have any tips on how I can convince her to let me go?

don't feel bad, i wasn't allowed to go to my senior prom. the reasons my mom gave me were that i was gonna come back drunk, high, in a car accident, dead, or pregnant. 15is pretty young to be going to prom, and from what i've heard, prom really isn't anything special. why don't you ask your mom what her reasons are for not letting you go. and in her defense, things have changed A LOT since she was your age, how do i know? b/c i'm now 21, and things have changed a ton since i was 15.

Hey, I wish in a way that I could go to prom - but my mom says is is like a poor imitation of a wedding - yeah - I'd like to go with my future husband - but I guess I have to wait till my REAL wedding! :)
ask for a compromise

If your mom insists on not letting you go, ask for a compromise. Perhaps she could take you and a girl friend or 2 out to a nice place where you can get dressed up for. I never went to either of my proms and I'm now 26 and don't feel like I missed out on anything. I was allowed to go and even had a boyfriend but I didn't want to go. I felt it was just one night to spend way too much money and time on. and the king/queen thing is just a popularity contest. but as a mother, i know your mom isn't trying to be mean, she's just trying to protect her princess!
