Love Myths

Conclusion

By Sarah Shuling

So why is it that there are these love myths? I learned that we are sinful and we live in a sinful world. We are tempted and led by our desires to sin. And we cover up our sin with excuses and reasons to justify. But it is wrong because God says it’s wrong. God is our Master Creator. So what right do we have to go against this design and say that His design or His ideas are faulty and that we have a better plan?

I hate to admit it, but we are selfish by nature. Many things that we do are for ourselves and to benefit ourselves. When queried on why people want to get married, a large majority of people will give selfish reasons like to fulfill their personal needs for physical touch, sex, pleasure, & loneliness. Most people do not recognize that marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God and is actually to glorify God and to edify your partner in marriage. So when we go into marriage, we should be looking at how to fulfill our partner and how to glorify God through our marriage instead of focusing on ourselves and how we can be fulfilled.

The Bible speaks of godlessness in the last days. It is scary, but we must be aware that this is already starting to happen around us, and we should not be alarmed when this happens. Because the Bible has already foretold of this.

2 Timothy 3

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth—men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.

Psalm 97:10
Let those who love the LORD hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

There are many more myths and facts that we are not able to cover here. But know this, when you are doubtful, go back to the Word of God. Develop a personal and right relationship with Him so that He will give you wisdom and direction to discern what is right and wrong. And remember that what the world/society says is not always correct.
