In the Beginning...
by Shelley Hitz
I have read these chapters so often (Genesis 1-3) that I decided to read it in the Amplified version to gain a different perspective. Wow...there is so much packed into these chapters that many, many posts could be written about.
A couple things that stuck out to me in reading it this time:
Genesis 1:1 (AMP), "IN THE beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth."
When the amplified version has parenthesis, it is bringing out additional phases of meaning included in the original word, phrase or clause of the original language.
So, I thought it was interesting that it says God prepared, formed, fashioned and created the heavens and the earth. I envision an artist preparing, forming, fashioning and creating their artwork.
The following phrase is repeated many times throughout chapter one..."And God saw that this was good (fitting, admirable) and he approved it." It's as if God sees what He's made and puts his "stamp of approval" on it!
Genesis 1:31 (AMP) says, "And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it completely."
Wow, to think that God approves of me completely is a good thought. One I could probably meditate on for a while!
