Homosexuality in my opinion is ok

by Emily
(Glen Burnie, MD)

I think homosexuality is ok. I know a lot of people who have come out and said that they are gay, but I will always love them no matter who they like.

I think that people should love whoever they love no matter what gender they are. If you truly love them and they love you no matter how many people might make fun of them being together. It doesn't matter what other people think it matters what you think.

Thanks for your honest opinion, Emily!

I agree with you that we should show love to those who have chosen the homosexual lifestyle, but I also believe, like I mentioned in the article, that homosexuality separates us from God, just like any sin does, and because of that we should offer the hope of Jesus Christ (which means forgiveness and repentance) to our friends that have chosen the homosexual lifestyle.

Here is something for you to consider...

You mention that you "think people should love whoever they love no matter what gender they are." The word love has really lost its meaning in our culture today, don't you think?

We "love" ice cream and we "love" our favorite music artist as well as "love" God and "love" our boyfriend or spouse.

Therefore, I find it interesting that in the original Greek language the bible was written in, it talks about three different types of love that are all translated as "love" in our English language. You've probably heard of them.

  1. Agape love - unconditional love, a willful and deliberate love (I Corinthians 13, Romans 5:8)

  2. Phileo love- friendship love and love for one's family (John 11:36 - Jesus' love for Lazarus)

  3. Eros love - romantic or sensual love

I agree with you that we can agape love and phileo love others of the same gender. But, we are to reserve the eros love specifically for marriage, which as I mentioned in the article above, is to be between a man and a woman.

Something to think about.

Something else to consider is the growing belief of relativism. Relativism is defined as "The doctrine that no ideas or beliefs are universally true but that all are, instead, "relative" - that is, their validity depends on the circumstances in which they are applied.(1)

In other words, relativism says, "That's true for you, but not for me" and believes that there are no absolute truths, or right and wrong.

You either believe in relativism or you believe in absolute truth. One or the other. You can't choose one sometimes and the other sometimes. It just doesn't work that way.

However, what about if someone rapes your friend and then says "It's his opinion that it's okay to rape someone else, as long as you do it out of good motives because you care for the person. Everything in us screams, "No! That's not okay! Rape is never acceptable. When a girl says no, she means no!"

And so, we find that there are some absolute truths, or right and wrong. For me, I've chosen to believe that there is absolute truth, and I believe that it is found in the bible.

You can choose to live by relativism, but I encourage you to realize what you are saying. You are saying that there is no longer a standard for moral right or wrong.

Something else to think about.

Thanks again for sharing and for listening!
