To Date or Not to Date?
by: Shelley

Ami,
That's a question a lot of girls are asking themselves. Why? Because our culture tells us that in order to have esteem and worth, we've got to "catch" the right guy....that dating is normal and acceptable even at young ages.

However, what are God's thoughts about dating? How can we please him with our relationships with guys?

This is something I've written about on one of my articles on this website. I've made my mistakes and regret some of my decisions, but can now see where they took me.

Would you take the time to read my article and tell me what you think? You can read my story about dating here:

www.teen-beauty-tips.com/top-dating-tips.html

However, my short answer to your question is, if I had to do it all over for myself, I would say "No, don't worry about dating anytime soon." For now, enjoy being friends with the guys in your life and surrender this area to God.

If you're still struggling to decide what to do, I'd recommend reading Joshua Harris' book, "I Kissed Dating Goodbye."

Praying for you,
Shelley

Hi Ami!

Thanks for your question! I think it's great that you are seeking advice, and that shows that you are growing in God and listening to Him as guides your walk.

Many people don't even ask this question, or when they ask, don't want to hear the answers that tell them "No", and simply ignore these answers, making their question asking futile.

There is no right or wrong age to start dating, because every person matures at different ages. But what you should not be doing is to feel pressured to have a boyfriend because your friends have boyfriends, or because it's the "in" thing to do, or because if you don't have a boyfriend, people will think you are weird.

Jesus is our Lord and Saviour. And He wants to have a personal relationship with each of us! How great is the love of the Father, that we should be called sons and daughters of God! And because of this relationship with our Heavenly Father, we must keep growing in Him to grow closer to Him, to become more fulfilled in Him.

Jesus wants us to know that we are made whole in Him, we are not looking for our other "halves" so that we can be made whole. We do not need boyfriends to make us feel loved and fulfilled and satisfied because Jesus can do all this for you. And you know what? When you feel secure in His love, when you feel mature in the Lord, that is when you will learn to lift up all your needs, wants and desires to the Lord and surrender everything to His divine will.

So most importantly, pray and seek God's will in your life. And be open to listening from others, because God speaks through many ways. Ask mature Christian adults you may know as well for their advice. Learn to listen to God.

You've begun a beautiful journey with the Lord! All the best! If you have noone else, there's always Shelley and the rest of us here! (By the way, I really like and agree with Shelley's article on Dating. Do read it!)

In Christ,
Sarah

DATING
by: Anonymous

Well first you have to ask yourself why do you want a boyfriend, why do you want to date? To me I don't really see a great reason why I should date. I don't think God wants us to date, because the purpose to date is to get into a relationship of marriage.
