You are special

Beloved Queirda:

When you begin to feel ugly and compare yourself to other girls, think of what God says about you. He loves you with a love that you can't comprehend.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14

What it means: You are created in the image of God, and God doesn't make junk! Like a snowflake, every person is unique. No two are the same. God sees you as a masterpiece; and when you look in the mirror, He wants you to "know that full well." Try this beauty tip: Every morning when you look in the mirror, say Psalm 139:14 and smile. You might even tape the verse on your mirror as a reminder! True beauty starts on the inside.

You are Unique!

Queirda,
Being Black, like yourself, I can understand the frustration you feel with your skin color and your hair. The society we live in has a poor conception of darker skin. I've always struggled with feeling like I could never be as pretty as white girls or measure up to them simply because I had darker skin.

Something that really encouraged me was looking at Song of Solomon in the Bible. It's a love story and the woman who is the desire of this gorgeous man's affections has darker skin than all the other girls! Her dark skin represented her status as one who had to work out in the sun and because of it, she was looked down upon by the other girls. Check this out:

"Dark am I, yet lovely,
O daughters of Jerusalem,
Dark like the tents of Kedar,
like the tent curtains of Solomon.
Do not stare at me because I am dark,
because I am darkened by the sun."
(Song of Songs 1:5-6)

Okay, so she says this about herself, but look at what the Lover (who represents Christ) says about her:

"How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh how beautiful! Your eyes are doves... Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the maidens."
(Song of Songs 1:15, 2:2)

If you go on to read the whole book, you'll read quite a few chapters of the Lover boasting in the beauty of His beloved. She probably felt exactly like you did, but he didn't see her the same way she saw herself.

Queirda, you are a lily among thorns (by the way, I saw your picture and you are a stinking cutie patootie). Hear the voice of your Beloved speaking over you. Every day He declares your beauty and His love for you. Choose to listen to HIS voice and not the voice of the world. The world will tell you that you will never be enough, like the other girls in Jerusalem did to the Shulamite woman, but the only word that is true and will remain forever is His.

You are beautiful and your skin is the shade that God created in His perfection. Why would you want to alter the beautiful shade He mixed to pour into your vessel? Ask God to open your eyes to see the beauty He created in you, okay?

As for hair and clothes, I've also been there. I actually chopped all of my relaxed hair off 6 months ago and am sporting a curly fro! I had the straight caucasian look for a long time and tried every hair growth product I could afford, but then I realized this:

"Your beauty should not come from the outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which is of great worth in God's sight." 1 Peter 3:3-4

I pray that you are encouraged by these scriptures and that you begin to embrace the unique beauty that God has given you. Let who you are be as unique as your name is;)

Your are unique, and u should be proud
by: Natalie T

Did u know that no 1, never, ever will be created just like you? The problem with most girls these days, is that they think they need to look exactly like the girls in magazines, but the truth is, that we can't. So, instead of addressing ur most unliked features, find the ones you do like, I did this, and I found, that there are a lot more things that I like about myself than I don't like.
Good luck, hope this help!=]

Will pray :)

Querida,

You look beautiful in that picture. I am not black, so I probably cannot understand what you are going through, but I do think you are beautiful. Someday you will think so too! I will pray for you.
